I think the National Museum of African American History and Culture is one of the greatest museums in the world. Incredibly moving interactive elements — such as the evocative elevator you must use to descend into the depths of the Slavery and Freedom exhibit — and a rich, tastefully intertwined presentation throughout. This isn’t a museum that only glosses over the highlights; you could spend hours and hours here and still have seen just a fraction of it (I have never gotten through the whole place myself). I’ve not had the opportunity to eat there, but have heard the museum cafe’s suitably excellent, too.
